In the more than 47 years that we have been providing innovative solutions to our clients, BGA has assembled a team of professionals and support personnel that are unrivaled in markets in which we practice. Today, BGA has four unique, but interdependent, practice areas meeting the complex demands of the healthcare, education, public safety, energy, and criminal justice markets. These primary practice areas are: mechanical, electrical, security electronics, and communications technology. All of which share common offices and administrative support in our Columbia, South Carolina headquarters.

Department Manager and Consulting Engineer responsible for communications projects and managing departmental resources. Specific accountability are product development and quality, coordination with clients, project management and resource control, vendor and contractor relationships, and project quality assurance. Activities include strategic plan development, business modeling and planning, design reviews, project cost estimating, and contract negotiations.
Previous experiences include engineering engagements with Georgia Power Company and Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division. Activities involved project management and engineering services with telephone switching systems, fiber optic communications facilities, microwave radio, land mobile radio, and computer control networks.

Mr. Summer has 25 years of experience with electronic security systems in justice facilities. This specialized effort has been full time with no gaps. The result is over 50 completed projects with most over $50M in construction value. He has also supported the firm’s other engineers and designers with technical and project management issues on numerous other projects. Mr. Summer has also conducted a number of studies to assist agencies with planning for improvements and operational changes. He helped the Federal Bureau of Prisons develop standards for their electronic security systems. A number of projects have involved system upgrades and interfacing new construction with existing facilities. He enjoys problem solving and troubleshooting and understands the importance of system reliability and maintainability. Mr. Summer’s early experience was in the nuclear power industry, and he has utilized that early experience to bring high standards to justice facility design.

Responsible for the design and engineering of electrical projects undertaken by the electrical engineering staff. Project management responsibilities include all phases of the project from preliminary design to final acceptance. He has been engaged in a wide variety of projects which encompass hospital and medical facilities, correctional facilities, postal office buildings, retail, nursing homes, courthouses, museums, historic renovations, and parking garages. All of these projects demonstrate his abilities in lighting design, primary and secondary power distribution, emergency power systems, life safety systems, and conformance to applicable codes and regulations.

Mr. Reider has designed a wide variety of projects which range from major hospital and correctional facilities to high rise office buildings, performing art centers, and educational facilities. These projects have demonstrated a thorough knowledge of life safety and air quality issues, thermal storage and variable flow systems, acoustical design, smoke control and pressurization systems, domestic and fire supply booster systems, domestic heating systems, and similar systems. Implementation of design technologies are based upon true value engineering, material and equipment reliability, and maintainability and life cycle cost analysis. In addition, through Mr. Reider’s supervision, accurate and concise details, equipment schedules, and specifications have been developed to clearly convey design requirements to the contractors. This, along with comprehensive project management, contract administration, and system testing and acceptance, ensures timely and successful completion of projects.
